Chapter Functions

Education:
The chapter offers training workshops in the Long Island area and members share their knowledge on chapter outings. We offer summer and winter backpacking courses and hiking clinics each year, intorductory classes on snowshoeing in the winter, and this year we offered an introductory rock-climbing class. Many of our monthly meetings are education-oriented, with a program designed to teach a skill or present new information.

Conservation
The Chapter is active in trail maintenance both locally and in the Catskills and Adirondacks. The Chapter is a member of regional conservation organizations such as the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Chapter members are active in local and regional conservation issues such as the preservation of Sterling Forest and the fight to save open land in Bethpage State Park.

Recreation:
The chapter's large outings schedule includes day hikes, backpacking trips including some in the Catskills, Adirondacks, New England and the Rockies, bicycling for both mountain bikers and those with road bikes, rock climbing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Volunteers:
In addition to our regular trail maintenance projects, chapter members participate in volunteer work at club facilities and on trails in the Adirondacks and Catskills.
