B Harriman :: Blue Disk / White Cross Trails
Sixth in a series of end-to-end hikes. 8.25 miles starting with the Blue Disc Trail,switching to R-D trail to the White Cross Trail before returning on Blue Disc Trail to Johnsontown Circle. If the group is up to it, we can add another .75 miles and return to Johnsontown Circle via the TMI and White Bar Trail. Some terrific views along the way. A+ Vermont Backpacking Adventure
Escape to the tranquil and bucolic Green Mountains in central Vermont. A four day hiking adventure on Vermont's ruggged and scenic Long Trail of 11 to 14 miles each day with lots of elevation gain and descent. The hiking will be strenuous but the rewards will be high as we hike Vermont's own Presidential Range through the Green Mountain National Forest. Two of the four day's we'll be above tree line as we hike over Mt Ellen and Mt Abraham and Camels Hump. Our base will be at the comfortable Hyde Away Inn in Waitsfield, VT. $89 + tax per night includes full breakfast. Per night rate will be much lower if you’re willing to share a room. A+ Basin and Saddleback ADK HIke Fest
We will meet at the Garden (carpooling recommended) and commence this long and strenuous hike via the Phelps Trail to the Range trail, and then ascend Basin (4827 ft.), cross the col and ascend the open rock up Saddleback (4515ft.). Moderate pace. Hikers should bring extra food,water (or filter) and clothing due to the length of this outing (16.3 miles). All registrants must supply phone number. Register by July 20. A+ Allen Mountain in Adirondacks
A long hike and a long day – about 19 miles, moderate pace. An early start is recommended. We hike along old roads and trails for about 7 miles and then ascend the old slide to the summit. Many fantastic viewpoints, all near the summit. Due to the remote nature of this hike, extra food, water and clothing are essential. Part of the Adirondack Summer Hike Fest. A+ Grace, Carson, Maybe Macomb
Ascend via the Grace (East Dix) slide and then to Carson. Great views along the ridge and summits. Distance to Grace slide about 4 miles, Grace summit 4.8 miles, Carson 5.8 miles, Macomb 7.0 miles. Ascent about 3200 feet. Moderate pace. Expect an early start. May still be some lingering snow and conditions may be chillier than elsewhere in NY State. Please bring extra clothes and food. Early start for trail hike to Bradley Pond, 4.25 miles, then up unmarked herd paths to Herald and Times Square, and then 1.5 miles or so to “Kook,” descending 900 feet to Panther–Couch col, and then an ascent of 350 feet to the 3820-ft. summit. Several subpeaks on the ridge with good views. About 14 miles, moderate pace. Possible side trip to Panther if there is enough time. This outing is very strenuous. ADK-LI Annual Summer Picnic Heckscher State Park. See full details on page 9 of the mountaineer. Kayaking. Paddle along shore of Great South Bay. Return in time for barbecue. Equipment rentals will be available from Kayaken Outfitters, $25 for a one-person kayak. Biking. Ride the 3.5 to 4 mile loop around Heckscher Park. Flat, often windy, relatively few cars. A ADK Presents the Ididaride!
Adirondack Bike Tour in North Creek, NY. 75-mile loop beginning and ending in North Creek; 20-mile option from Indian Lake to North Creek. A fund-raising bicycle tour to support ADK’s conservation, education, and recreation programs. This year’s ride is dedicated to the memory of Betty Lou Bailey, avid ADK-er and bicyclist. 3 rest stops with snacks, water provided along the route. SAG wagon and mobile mechanical support provided. Rider packet with map and t-shirt (to the first 100 registrants) provided at registration. Après-ride party: food, drink, prizes and music! Swimming and camping available nearby. Rustic camping in the beautiful Catskills near Lake Colgate. The hike planned for Saturday is Balsam Mountain, 5-6 miles. Sunday’s hike will be discussed with all campers. Dunning Trail/Stahahe Brook Trail in Harriman Park. Ninth in a series of end-to-end hikes. 7.2 miles starting at Elk Pen parking area on Arden Road. We'll take the ASB trail to the Stahahe Brook Trail, switch to the Nurian Trail, pass through the valley of the boulders, pick up the Dunning Trail, switch to the ASB trail and finish at Lake Skanatati.
