Welcome to the Long Island Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club
ADK Long Island is a local chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Our 900-plus members are passionate about the wilderness and outdoor recreation.  Volunteer-led outings such as hiking, paddling, cycling, cross-country skiing, and backpacking take us to the Hudson Highlands, Catskills, Adirondacks and places far afield, as well as Long Island. We are active in the maintenance and protection of our wilderness and waterways and welcome new members.

Upcoming Meetings

ADK LI meets monthly on the first Tuesday of the Month.  We do not meet during July and August.  All meetings are held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 20 Candlewood Path, Dix Hills NY, 11746.  Meetings begin with hospitality at 7:30 followed by a monthly program.

Click here for directions to our meetings.

Out of an abunance of caution the March 3 meeting is canceled due to the poor weather forecast. See you in April

TUESDAY, March 3 “FRACKING” will be discussed by Jane Fuscilli from the Sierra Club. Wherever there is a shale formation underground, fracking can take place. Chemicals are involved as well as explosions to break up the rocks. This has been ongoing in NY State and has had adverse effects on property owners, parks as well as our environment. Please come to the meeting for this very important powerpoint presentation.

TUESDAY APRIL 7- “ BIKE RIDE THRU HISTORY”
Lanny Wexler, a long time member of ADK will present his nine day Great Allegheny Passage cycle ride between Pittsburgh and Washington DC.  From the forks of the Ohio River to the tidewater of the Potomac- the 150mile Great Allegheny Passage and 184.5mile Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath linked together to create an unparalleled biking adventure. Together they form the longest hiking/biking trail in the nation. Every year thousands of cyclists take this ride that National Geographic calls “an American classic.” Please come to see this slide presentation of a very exciting, unique and full of adventure trip of a lifetime.
