Mt Marshall (A)
Sunday, October 8, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This is a strenuous hike to Mt Marshall, one of the ADK 46ers with a summit elevation of 4,380’ . The round trip distance is approximately 15 miles with 2900 feet of total elevation gain. This outing is part of the planned ADK-LI Columbus weekend activities.
This hike is not for beginners and will be challenging for intermediates in good hiking shape. Parts of the route will be strenuous with difficult footing. This is not a good hike to experiment on if you have not had experience with long hikes to high peaks. Any hiker expecting a well-maintained trail will probably not like this hike.
We will meet in front of the Loj immediately after breakfast and hike at a moderate, but steady pace. Please bring rain gear, food, at least 2 liters of water and all the usual essentials. Boots, long pants, and gaiters are recommended for this hike. The route includes water crossings, muddy areas, sections on unmarked steep herd paths, unmaintained trails with blow down, rock scrambles, and even some easy sections. At times, it will feel like a bush whack. With the right mindset and preparedness, it should be a lot of fun.
We will look for a plane wreck that has an interesting back-story near the Iroquois col. Hopefully if time permits we will search for views near the summit (there are none from the actual summit itself).
Participants staying in the Loj will be given priority for registration but all are strongly encouraged to register in advance by contacting the leader, Ed Moran, by 9PM on Wednesday October 4:
