TUESDAY, APRIL 4 – ADK KAYAK TRIP Pat Malodobry, ADK hike leader and avid volunteer for many years will present a slide show of our club’s Kayaking trip. The guide Anne Brewer of Placid Water Outfitters was instrumental in the organization and implementation of the trip. The presentation will focus on wilderness camping and kayaking in St Regis and Saranac Lake areas of the Adirondacks. The trip is full of adventure on the many streams and lakes. You will see how the camping part of the trip actually turns into “glamping.”

Target Rock National Wildlife Refuge (C+)

Target Rock National Wildlife Refuge Village of Lloyd Harbor 80 acre mature oak/ hickory forest with a rocky beach. There is a brackish pond also.  Join me on my “Good-bye to Winter, Hello to Spring hike”. We will hike through forest down to the beach where we will hike along the beach to the ruins of a lighthouse. We will enjoy views of Huntington Bay, the LI Sound and Lloyd Harbor. From the ruins we will have a good view of the Huntington Lighthouse. Bring snacks, water or lunch. We will be timing our hike around the tides so that we can hike to the ruins. Saturday, April 22 - Spring Trail Maintenance - Catskills  Join us for the Spring Trail Maintenance of the section of Long Path - Catskill State Park.  The trail covers Bangle Hill, south-east of Peekamoose Mountain. South Taconic Trail (A-)

Exploratory hike of some 12 moderately strenuous miles along a recent southward extension of the South Taconic Trail between Rudd Pond and the Massachusetts border. Many scenic views of the Harlem River Valley and hills of northwest Connecticut and the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Visit the highest point in Connecticut on the shoulder of Mt Frissell and the tri point of Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. Bring lunch, trail snack, 2 quarts of water and rain gear. Popolopen Torne, Harriman State Park (B)

Stump Pond Loop – Smithtown (C+)

A moderately paced six mile loop around Stump Pond in Blydenburgh Park in Suffolk County. Stump Pond is the third largest freshwater body on Long Island and is rich with aquatic life. 4 Birds Split Rock Loop Hike (B+)

A moderately challenging 11.2 mile hike around the Splitrock Reservoir in the rarely visited Farny Highlands of northwest New Jersey. Expect lots of short ups and down along this rocky trail. There will be many view points along the way of the Split Rock Reservoir. Split Rock Reservoir is a gem of a place. Nestled between Stonybrook and Greenpond Mountains, its shoreline undeveloped, save the dam at the south end. Bring 2 quarts of water, lunch, trail snacks, hiking boots and rain gear. Ellenville Ice Cave Hike May Date TBD (A)

Hike through Shingle Gully visiting the Refrigerator and at least two wild Ice Caves, and then traversing to Sam's Point. This is a long, all day hike and an adventure you won't forget! Bike And Hike Lloyds Neck (B-)

A combo biking and hiking trip of Lloyds Neck. Ride approximately sixteen miles  along the leafy quiet back roads of affluent Lloyds Neck. Some moderate hills.  Enjoy expansive views of Huntington Harbor and Long Island Sound. The two hiking stops will  include Target Rock National Wildlife Refuge and the little known Fiske Bird Sanctuary we’re we’ll take a short hike to explore a variety of ecosystems including meadows, woodlands and the rocky seashore.  Meet at the parking area along Mill Dam Road next to Huntington Harbor. Brothers Trail Maintenance – Adirondacks (B+)

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Spring Maintenance trip to The Brothers Trail. Saturday will be for clearing trail , cutting blowdowns and other work , which when combined with the hike is a strenuous day. A group dinner is held Saturday evening. Sunday is to do your own hike. Fahnestock State Park Loop Hike (B)

Moderately paced 7.2-mile loop hike on the Charcoal Burners, Cabot, Perkins and Fahnestock trails with gentle ups and downs. This hike has a little bit of everything that makes Fahnestock a great place to hike in all seasons. We’ll pass three ponds, open fields, mountain laurel thickets, and follow a gurgling stream. Excellent hike for fit beginners. Bring lunch and a couple liters of water. Westkill Mountain Traverse (Catskills) (A-)

8 mile moderately challenging ascent of Westkill Mountain. 2,600 foot ascent.  Enjoy spectacular views of the lush green Catskill mountains from Buck Ridge Lookout. Cool down at Diamond Notch Falls. Leader's 6th climb of Westkill to celebrate 30th anniversary completion of Catskill 3500 on Westkill.  We'll meet to do this truly unique hike, park cars art either end and hike 7.8 miles, beginning with Cascade, then Porter then the many bumps of Blueberry and a steep descent to the parking lot at Marcy Field. Pace here will be fairly slow on the ascent and more moderate on the steep descent with many views. Please bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water as the ridge is often dry. Rain gear, too. Indian Lake 4-3-2-1 Hike Challenge (B)

The Adirondacks have their 46, Saranac Lake the 6ers, Chestertown the Challenge, Tupper Lake its Triad, and now, Indian Lake has the 4-3-2-1 Hike Challenge (http://indian-lake.com/docs/HikingPatch4-3-2-1.pdf). Using the chamber of commerce color coded trail map, the challenge consists of ten hikes: four greens (easy), three yellows (moderate), two reds (difficult) and either Snowy or Blue Mountain. Arrive in Indian Lake on Friday evening then over the next three days hike such local classics as: Chimney Mountain 2.2 miles RT, Watch Hill 2.4 miles RT, Castle Rock 3.4 miles RT (all yellows) and John Pond – Clear Pond loop, Bullhead Pond, OK Slip Falls 6 miles RT (all greens). Tupper Lake Triad (B)

Presidents’ Weekend. Complete the Tupper Lake Triad (http://www.tupperlaketriad.com) in winter. Arrive in Indian Lake on Friday evening and  on Saturday hike Coney 2.2 miles RT with 548' ascent and Goodman mountains 3.2 miles RT with 581' ascent and and on Sunday hike Mt. Arab 2.2 miles RT with  764' ascent. Monday’s hike determined by group. Snowshoes and micro-spikes are required. Trip limited to 10 people. Cost: $100 for three nights lodging at local camp with all the ingredients for a DIY breakfast provided. Group dinner on Saturday & Sunday at local restaurants.
